Great Minds in STEM™ (GMiS) is a 501(c)3 educational programs non-profit organization that promotes careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). With a 28-year history GMiS keeps America technologically strong through the delivery of national Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) awareness programs for students, parents and teachers in underserved communities; providing opportunities for the academic and career development of underrepresented students and professionals in STEM; and honoring the excellent contributions of our nation's Hispanic engineers and scientists. 1. BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR

Opportunity to work alongside a dynamic Leader in the business of STEM Higher Education Access - - She will be there to Mentor and Teach You How To Network GMiS and it's Sponsors!

This position is based at the Great Minds in STEM headquarters office in the City of Montebello, CA, with up to 30% seasonal travel to Washington D.C., Texas and Florida.

Essential Functions:
  • Contribute to development strategy.
  • Develop marketing materials and assist with planning for fundraising events, meetings, and business trips.
  • Develop and manage ongoing relationships with key donors and groups.
  • Learn and help manage the GMIS CRM platform.
  • Drive ongoing research on potential partnerships; qualify new prospects.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive presentations to prospects and other internal leadership.
  • Writing and distribution of data reports, quotes, invitations, other correspondence and tracking of revenue.

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3 – 5 years of pertinent work experience, preferably in development, marketing, or communications.
  • Passion for education.
  • Appreciation for philanthropy and enjoyment of fundraising.
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and familiarity with online CRM platforms.

2. MANAGER, EDUCATION AND OUTREACH PROGRAMS

Under the supervision of the Chief Academic Officer, the Manager of Education and Outreach Programs will be the lead in the planning, preparation, delivery and review of education GMiS STEM awareness programming and services that support the mission of Great Minds in STEM. This includes but is not limited to managing a team of coordinators, GMiS interns, college student leaders and industry and government volunteers to conduct all programs and services. GMiS is a national organization and many of its programs and services are delivered across the United States.

These programs are conducted in underserved communities and focus on students, parents, teachers, and administrators for the K-12 national and local education programs under Great Minds in STEM. The GMiS Outreach Programs focus on serving the general population, especially the elderly and disabled communities.

Positive interaction and representation of GMiS is required with sponsors, foundations, and political and community officials to ensure continued financial support of the education programs. GMiS K-12 and Outreach programs include but are not limited to Viva Technology, STEM-Up Initiative, Teacher Trainings, school assemblies and other community programs and events.

RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Oversee all managerial aspects of education and outreach programs within GMiS.
  • Manage, coordinate, execute, and deliver in a timely manner education program functions and activities conducted locally and/or throughout the United States.
  • Collaborate and communicate on a continuous basis with sponsors, community-based organizations and volunteers as it relates to program expectations, outcomes and reports.
  • Lead the research /development of hands-on activities and challenges for education programs.
  • Maintain budget projections and planning for the execution of successful education programs. Conduct programs and services in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Coordinate, present, and manage presentations pertaining to college & career pathways plans and STEM education and career opportunities awareness.
  • Manage and execute education components and programs throughout the country, including the yearly GMiS Summit and the GMiS Conference.
  • Maintain current knowledge of key education initiatives and grant opportunities across the nation with school districts & federal departments that can be applied for leveraging the GMiS education programs.
  • Manage work schedules and assignments for coordinators, interns, college student leaders, volunteers and GMiS personnel across departments, as needed.
  • Implement and oversee the education department calendars for capacity and personnel planning.
  • Document and formalize processes and procedures for education and outreach programs including but not limited to site meetings, sponsor specific requests, college student leaders and teacher trainings, power point presentations, research & development and continue developing creative strategies to integrate STEM K-12 schools.
  • Participate in discussions and meetings with other GMiS Departments as it relates to program goals and outcomes including but not limited to the following departments: Development, University and Academic Affairs, Conference & Events, and IT & Accounting.
  • Represent the organization at local and national events, programs and business meetings to support the promotion of GMiS.
  • Develop and update collateral materials within the department for outreach and education awareness.
  • Manage and maintain GMiS website to ensure current education and outreach program calendar and events are listed.
  • Oversee the collection, analysis and evaluation of program data and prepare monthly activity reports.
  • Prepare and deliver monthly/quarterly reports in a timely manner for Executive Team and Board of Directors.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS / EXPERIENCE / SKILLSET
  • Education- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Computer Science, Education, Psychology, Social Justice, Communications, Language Arts or any additional major that GMiS finds relevant.
  • Career Experience-minimum of three (5) years experience with education programs and preferred minimum of (1) year experience with community events and or managing people and programs.
  • Build and maintain team spirit while conveying a positive team attitude, creative and works well in a changing environment.
  • Strong motivational, leadership, and intellectual contributions as well as listening skills with fellow coordinators, GMiS team members, students, school personnel and sponsors.
  • Constantly solve complex problems and show high managerial standards including but not limited to programming, staffing, and research and development issues in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Comfortable with social media platforms and experience with managing social media presence to give visibility to GMiS education and outreach programs.
  • Ability to speak in public to various professional audiences from the corporate, government, education, non-profit and community arenas, including students, parents, teachers, Administrators from all grade levels.
  • Ability to positively speak and work directly with students, parents, teachers from all grade levels (kindergarten to senior year of high school).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual Spanish preferred though not required.

3. EDUCATION AND OUTREACH PROGRAM ASSISTANT

Great Minds in STEM is a national non-profit organization dedicated to the mission of keeping America technologically strong by encouraging youth from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds to pursue careers in STEM. GMiS designs and conducts a broad portfolio of programs and services to support the K-20 community, industry and government agencies and private sector, in its fulfillment of its mission.

The GMiS Program Assistant is a part-time position and will provide general support for the various programs and services within the GMiS Education and Academic Affairs portfolio, including the Viva Tech Program, University outreach and engagement, Scholarships, MentorNet and GMiS Conference. The GMiS Program Assistant will also be asked to support in the delivery of other programs and services as the need arises.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Prepare materials and products in support of GMiS engagement with key external stakeholders, including industry, K-12 community and higher education
  • Engage with high-quality work product for complex assignments and deliver in a timely and efficient manner
  • Actively engage with distribution of information to the public, students and company representatives by phone, mail, email, social media or other appropriate means
  • Perform clerical tasks related to job responsibilities and departmental projects, such as maintaining files and documents in Office 365, tracking of inventory in storage areas, and assisting with shipment of materials
  • Perform data entry tasks and assists with the preparation of reports and spreadsheets that help others track, evaluate, and complete projects
  • Ability to research, collate and capture information that will be used in carrying out programs and services
  • Assist students, professionals and staff and those who contact the office (via email, phone or in person) by handling their requests and providing positive customer service
  • Support GMiS organization at large with administrative support as requested

Requirements
  • Must be enrolled in College/University, at minimum as a half-time student (6-8 units); preferred enrollment in STEM academic program (associate, bachelors or graduate)
  • Consistently punctual and reliable for daily work product, team performance and education programs support
  • Must be available to work agreed upon weekly scheduled hours
  • Show a professional presence in dress, speaking, written communication, and use of personal cell phone during working hours
  • Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite tools and willingness to learn additional computer software tools as needs arise
  • Participate in yearly HENAAC Summit and annual GMiS Conference
  • Be able to travel and attend local GMiS programs to provide staffing support
  • On occasion, be available to travel outside of Los Angeles area to support GMiS programs delivered across the country (on a per requested basis)


Physical Abilities
  • Be able to walk, stand, bend and sit
  • Use of office equipment including PC workstation in a network environment, calculator, phone, printer, copy machine and other general office equipment
  • Valid Driver’s License and valid automobile insurance may be required to drive an automobile
  • Pass the Department of Justice’s finger print background check
  • Physical ability to lift a 20-pound box
