The Davila/ Treviño Memorial Scholarship is sponsored by the Davila and Treviño families in memory of David Davila and Joe Trevino. These two men, from different parts of the country, different education levels and different life journey both embodied hard work, education and perseverance.

Mr. Davila was a 20-year Air Force Veteran, who was killed at the age of 40 by a drunk driver while pursuing his own college education in Urban Studies at St. Mary’s University. His model, “Education is the only thing in life that could not be taken away from you once you earned and achieved it,” enabled all six of his children to earn their college degrees.

Mr. Trevino, despite having only an 8th grade education, was very successful in real estate, home building and design. His teachings to his four children were to ravage learning and find what suited you. He lived by his motto, “God gave you two hands, one to help ourselves and one to help others.” He battled Alzheimer’s disease for eight years and lost the battle, in 2006, at the age of 77.

The Davila/ Treviño Memorial Fund is dedicated to promoting hard work and perseverance combined with education. Scholarships are awarded to qualified STEM undergraduate students attending a 4-year college/university in Texas, and exemplify the Davila/ Treviño motto - those who are willing to work hard; achieve your goals; remember where you came from and always give back.
