In Memoriam and Personal Scholarships

Great Minds in STEM awards some very special scholarships, which have been established in the loving memory of an endeared supporter of GMiS or have been established by long-time supporters and dear friends of GMiS. CURRENT DONORS

Robert Amezcua Memorial Scholarship - These scholarships are presented by the Amezcua family in loving memory of husband and father Robert Amezcua, who was also a dedicated GMiS board member and advocate of GMiS. Students must be attending the University of Texas at El Paso, the alma mater of Robert. 

Ann Seki Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship, sponsored by Chevron, is awarded in memory of Ann Seki, an original member of the Chevron Hispanic Recruiting Team. For 30 years, she had a determined viewpoint in insuring Chevron met diversity hiring goals and was instrumental in developing a process to identify and select Chevron employees for higher recognition outside Chevron. 

Davila/Trevino Memorial Scholarship -These $1,000 scholarships, sponsored by the Davila and Trevino families in memory of David Davila and Joe Trevino, are awarded to undergraduate students attending a 4-year college/university in Texas. 

  • Henry W. Brady Memorial Scholarship – This scholarship is sponsored by RADM Patrick Brady (Ret.), in loving memory of his father Henry W. Brady.

Leticia S. Montiel Memorial Scholarship - These $500 memorial scholarships, sponsored by GMiS Board Treasurer Rudy Montiel, are awarded to a qualified undergraduates attending the University of Texas at El Paso. 

Mellado Family Scholarship -These $1,000 scholarships presented by GMiS Chairman and Founder, Ray Mellado, and his wife Carmela are awarded each to an undergraduate student and a graduate student, who demonstrates leadership excellence and the potential to become a national leader in the STEM workforce and a future HENAAC Hall of Fame inductee. 

Raul Villarreal Family Scholarship – These scholarships, sponsored by Raul Villarreal, are awarded to students, who are pursuing an engineering degree at the University of Texas at Arlington. 

Stephanie Aceves STEM Latinas Scholarship - This scholarship, awarded to qualified females in engineering, is sponsored by Stephanie Aceves, graduate of the University of Southern California and multi-year recipient of the HENAAC Scholarship.


PAST DONORS


Jose R. Silva Memorial Scholarship - These $1,000 scholarships were sponsored by The Raytheon Company, in memory of Mr. Jose R. Silva, who was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident after having dedicated a 25-year career to Raytheon. 

Lopez-Piñeda Family Scholarship - This one-time scholarship was sponsored by Bayron Lopez, CSULA graduate and former GMiS staff member.

Victoria Alegria Tracy Memorial Scholarships - These scholarships were sponsored by Dr. & Mrs. John Tracy to support female students attending a university in Southern California, especially CSULA. The Victoria Alegria Tracy Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of Dr. Tracy’s mother, Victoria Mari Alegria Tracy, who had a passion for education and was always encouraging students to continue along in their studies, and persist through the challenges. Dr. Tracy is the retired Chief Technology Officer of The Boeing Company.
