David D. Campaña      

David Campaña is living his dream of being a leader building leaders; a far cry from his humble beginnings.

He was the sixth of eight children in a neighborhood where finishing high school was seen as a great accomplishment and college was only a pipe dream. With no academic mentor, his hunger for success was his driving motivator. He started working bagging groceries when he was 11 years old and by the time he was 16, he was an assistant manager of a local sneaker store – a job he kept until graduating from high school. David was the first in his family to graduate from high school and with great decisive aim, he continued on to meet his goal of attaining higher education and in the process escaping the troubles so many in his neighborhood faced. He began by applying to several colleges and eventually was accepted to a program at Polytechnic University (now NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering), that offered underprivileged high school graduates the opportunity to attend a prestigious university with most of the expenses being paid by the program.

David went on to complete his bachelor’s degree in mathematics with an emphasis in computer science and while in college became part of the National Society of Black Engineers and Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. Immediately after graduating, David started working at Chase Bank where he was accepted into their IT Management Program and was exposed to various parts of the banking industry and working on many applications and interacting with business partners for the first time. Needless to say, this was the start of David’s 21-year journey as a technical executive, partner and leader.

Over the next few years, David went on to several positions where he gained merger and acquisition experience. He would eventually find his way to Prudential Financial where today he is effectively executing his role as Vice President of Total Retirement Solutions at Prudential Retirement Technology. In this role, David is responsible for developing, planning and leading the implementation of all back and front office, as well as several shared service platform solutions for Total Retirement Solutions business. He has saved more than $1 million dollars in both Labor and Operational processes through the optimization of technology and labor resources. David has delivered and implemented over 120 Enhancements, 117 Initiatives and over 450 Production Support changes across all TRS platforms and applications. All projects were delivered on time and within budget.

David continues to inspire and motivate others. As the Woodbridge Site Champion for the Hispanic Heritage Network, David provides development opportunities for less tenured employees. Polytechnic University has recognized him for being a role model who inspires, motivates and mentors future leaders to succeed.

Apart from his bachelor’s degree, David also holds a Master of Business of Administration from Columbia University and was recognized as a HENAAC Luminary by Great Minds in STEM last October.
