STEM Professional of the week

Vanessa Rosas, P.E.
The Walt Disney Company

Vanessa Rosas is the Manager of Experience Development for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. In this capacity, she is responsible for the full integration of new products with technology and operations, especially as it pertains to Attractions, Entertainment as well as Food and Beverage. Vanessa looks at ways in which to enhance the Disney experience, across all four Disney parks.

Vanessa was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico where she learned the value of family, love, education, culture and religion. She was also taught to never stop dreaming and to always work hard to achieve goals and dreams. It was at 12 years old as a member of the Girl Scouts that she learned about a career that would combine her passion for Math, Science and people - something called engineering. With hard work and dedication, she completed her Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez. Vanessa then went on to pursue her Master in Science degree in industrial engineering human factors and ergonomics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

She began her career with Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, in 2000, as an Industrial Engineering (IE) Cast Member supporting many client areas including the College Program, Disney’s Child Care Centers, Project Tomorrowland, Merchandise and Park Operations among others. During her 8 years as an IE Cast Member, she also enjoyed interacting with other Cast Members, participating in the Walt Disney World IE community service team and leading IE Onboarding and Diversity efforts.

A dream came true when she became a member of the Walt Disney World Ambassador Team serving as an emissary of goodwill with the cast, in the community and with media. Utilizing her industrial engineering skills, she identified process improvement opportunities within the Ambassador program and the Community Relations team.

Soon after her term as Ambassador concluded, she joined the Experience Development team where she works today. She continues to wear her industrial engineering hat and combines it with the extensive company and operations knowledge she’s acquired throughout her thirteen years as a Disney Cast Member.

Vanessa knows that she serves as an example to children, showing them that they can pursue a career in Math and Science and still be an active member of the community while having the time of their life. Vanessa and her husband Sol L. Fontanes are the proud parents of two beautiful girls, Andrea and Paola. For her wonderful career accomplishments and service to the community, Vanessa was honored by Great Minds in STEM as a Luminary Honoree during the 2012 HENAAC Conference.
