Scholar of the Week

Alan Gonzalez      

Alan Gonzalez is a 2012 HENAAC-Northrop Grumman Corporation scholarship recipient. He is a junior electrical engineering student at California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA). Alan is also specialization in power, systems and electronic engineering.

Prior to entering CSULA, Alan participated in the Summer Transition into Engineering Program (STEP). The following year, he was a STEP Workshop Facilitator tutoring students and assisting professors. Since his freshman year, Alan has also been an active member of the Mathematics, Engineering and Science Achievement (MESA) Program where he played an integral role as a volunteer in the success of the MESA preliminary competitions for the MESA Schools Program. The MESA pre-college program serves disadvantaged students in the Los Angeles area motivating them to pursue careers in the STEM fields. Alan has volunteered over thirty hours of dedicated time to making the MESA events organized and memorable for the student participants.

Alan maintains a 3.95 GPA, while currently serving as an Academic Excellence Workshop Facilitator for the CSULA College of Engineering, Computer Science and Technology where he helps students improve their engineering math skills. He is also an active member of the Society of Hispanic Engineering and Science Students (SHESS) and serves as the Membership Coordinator. His work ethic and commitment to achieving academic excellence plus serving his community makes Alan a model student.

Alan aspires to a career which focuses on the regulation of power in his community. He would like to work to assure the equal distribution and regulation of power.
