Scholar of the Week



Anthony Becerril      
California State University, Long Beach




Anthony Becerril is a senior electrical engineering student at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). He is a Class of 2015 HENAAC Scholar recipient of a $2,428.50 scholarship sponsored by the Lockheed Martin Corporation.

Described by his faculty as a great student, mentor and example to other engineering students, since 2012, Anthony has been an active GMiS College Captain supporting several Viva Technology and STEM-Up programming throughout Los Angeles and Long Beach. He is also the Co-President of the SHPE Chapter at CSULB.

Anthony has represented the university off-campus through his various successful internship experiences. He interned with the Chrysler Group LLC as a Product Development - Wiring Intern formulating specified testing process within reliability and safety standards targeting vehicle weight reduction. He was a Peer Mentor and Educator for the Hispanic Serving Institution – Science Technology Engineering Mathematics program mentoring and tutoring over thirty STEM students. He also completed a research internship at the Energy Efficient Electronics Science Research Center at the University of California, Berkeley, where he researched alloy composition targeting nanomagnetic energy efficiency.

Anthony’s motivational drive is strongly intrinsic through a passion for change – not only in himself but helping others become their best regardless of the situation. He strives his best to not only apply his knowledge but transcend what he’s learned. Great leaders show by example and according to his peers, Anthony is doing just that. With his attitude and positive outlook, Anthony is well underway to a great STEM career.
