Jorge Ramirez

Jorge Ramirez, a 4.0 University Honors Program, mechanical engineering junior, at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is a 2013 HENAAC-Cummins scholarship recipient.

Jorge is currently a Research Assistant at the UTEP W.M. Keck for 3D Innovation Center. At the Center he has been involved in several projects including: developing a multi-material, multi-technology Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) platform; improving interlayer bonding of FDM-manufactured parts; and, incorporating an infrared camera into an electron beam melting machine.

As a sophomore, he demonstrated a high interest in conducting innovative and challenging research. After volunteering a few months in the lab, it was apparent that Jorge was committed to developing the unique skill set of a research scientist. Today, Jorge continues to demonstrate the ability to conduct research with extreme attention to detail, to work both independently and as part of a team, and the ability to communicate proficiently and achieve high quality results in a timely fashion.

Jorge is not only committed to his academic and research responsibilities, he is also involved in a few extracurricular activities. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Society of Automotive Engineers, the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and the SAE Collegiate Design Series.

As a mechanical engineer, Jorge aspires to hone his research skills and become part of a research team that innovates the next generation of technologies that can help to improve the basic necessities of his community.
