Juan Carlos Enriquez      

Juan Carlos Enriquez, a senior mechanical engineering student at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is a 2012 HENAAC-Rockwell Collins scholarship recipient.

Juan has been an active member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) since October of 2010. He was highly involved in the Shell Eco Marathon Vehicle Challenge and went to Houston to participate in this competition. Since May 2011, he has served as president of the ASME-UTEP Chapter, He has been instrumental in increasing the organization’s funding, and increasing the student membership through design competitions and events. He has also increased student participation on conferences outside of El Paso.

Juan Carlos is very well known around the UTEP engineering department because of his enthusiasm and hard work that he devotes to school and extracurricular activities. He was an integral part in the formation of the Mechanical Department Leadership Council, where he learned a lot about team management and working towards a common goal with faculty and staff of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Juan Carlos is also a member of the national Tau Beta Pi Engineering Society, the Pi Tau Sigma Mechanical Engineering Honor Society, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

After obtaining his degree, Juan Carlos aspires to receive an MBA, obtain his engineering license and become involved in local politics. He believes a STEM degree will provide a well-rounded background that will help him make a real change in his community and better understand the issues that keep El Paso from being at the forefront of technological innovation.
