Zachary Ruiz      
University of Texas at Austin

Zachary Ruiz, a previous Oracle Scholar, is a senior at the University of Texas at Austin majoring in Computer Science. Zachary received one of four $500 scholarships from McAfee.

Zachary’s drive to succeed has also been evident throughout his highly active and involved university life. He has participated in several activities including, serving as President of Jester East Residence Hall Council in 2012. Prior to that, he was the Administrative Assistant and the next year served as Senator for the University Residence Hall Association, University Democrats. In 2011, Zachary served as 2011 Poster Committee Co-Chair for Texas To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA), a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction and suicide. Additionally, he was a National Hispanic Scholar, National Technical Honor Society Member and Technology Student Association National Tech Bowl Finalist.

Zachary has witnessed the advancement of technology in the last few years, and with the high demand in the technology field, he has decided to major in Computer Science. He enjoys interacting with cutting edge technology and looks forward to acquiring the necessary skills to be a productive member of society. He has already started applying his knowledge at Affinitywear Inc., where he designs, develops and publishes company websites. He is a Certified Internet Webmaster, Microsoft Technology Associate and Adobe Certified Associate. He is also very skilled in programming languages, such as C++ HTML, CSS, Java, and XML, has significant experience with mobile development for Anroids, and extensive knowledge in graphic design programs including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After Effect and Adobe Flash.

Zachary is described by Maria Aviles, a colleague of 2 years, as “one of the most ambitious people I have encountered. Zach shows his zeal for Computer Science by going in head first into many of the projects.” Zachary’s ambitions are evident in all of the work that he does, all while maintaining a 3.51 GPA in his academics. It is no doubt that Zachary will have many great accomplishments in his career.
