Adriana Zegarra
Senior
Prudue University
Featured: 02-08-2010 thru 02-14-2010

Adriana Zegarra is in her senior year at Purdue University majoring in industrial engineering. Adriana’s first choice of study was business, but following advice from her father who received his bachelors’ degree in business administration and his masters’ in technology management, she decided to first pursue engineering. As a senior, she feels she made the right choice. Adriana is a participant in the Purdue Global Engineering Alliance for Research and Education (GEARE) program. This program is a combined International Internship, Study Abroad and Global Design Team Project Program that is based on a cooperative effort between the engineering programs at Purdue and four other international universities, including the University of Karlsruhe in Germany. The program provides opportunities for both Purdue and Karlsruhe students to acquire international internship, educational and collaborative research experiences that prepare them for engineering careers in today’s fast changing global marketplace. Adriana was selected as one of seven Purdue students who are participating in the Germany-part of the program and currently serves as vice-president of the GEARE student organization. Adriana is also on the leadership team for the Women in Engineering K-5th Program, a program is sponsored by Motorola as their quest to introduce engineering to K-5th grade students. She is also a member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, where she has held the position of historian. As a future engineering Adriana hopes to influence others as her father influenced her. She hopes to continue serving as an inspiration to others. Adriana is a 2009 HENAAC-Northrop Grumman scholarship recipient.
