HENAAC is now Great Minds in STEM!
HENAAC™, a non-profit organization promoting careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, is creating a new overall name to the organization – Great Minds in STEM™. We are doing this to reflect the expanded role of our Education Programs and other efforts we are taking to promote STEM careers in underrepresented communities.

Jessica Ho
Senior
Florida State University
Featured: 02-22-2010 thru 02-28-2010

Jessica Ho is in her senior year at Florida State University (FSU) majoring in industrial engineering. Since she was a high school student, Jessica always liked numbers and enjoyed every class that had to do with numbers and problem solving. During her junior year in high school, her fellow classmates were beginning to research colleges and decide on their major. Her physics professor knew how much Jessica liked numbers and suggested the idea of pursuing a career in engineering. It was when she had the opportunity of doing an internship in Productos Alimenticios Pascual, a cookie factory and one of the most successful industrial factories in Panama, that she decided to become an industrial engineer. Academically, Jessica has excelled at FSU presently carrying a 3.8 grade point average. Jessica has been continually placed on the Dean’s List and was recently selected for the President’s List, an honor reserved for those students with the highest academic achievement. As an undergraduate research assistant Jessica studied the anisotropic material behavior of carbon fiber reinforced composites and provided an analysis of various micro-mechanics models that have been used extensively by several graduate students. Jessica is involved in several student organizations. She is a member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, serving as the public relations officer and a member of the Tau beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, serving as treasurer. She is also a member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Jessica’s main goal in life is to be in charge of an industrial factory. As a future engineer, she hopes to influence students to not only pursue a STEM career and become successful professionals, but also to motivate them to do anything they want to do. Jessica is a 2009 HENAAC-Shaw Industries scholarship recipient.
